Question: Who owns
MCA?
Answer:
MCA is owned by
Mercy Memorial Hospital System, ProMedica Continuing Care
Corporation, LifeStar Ambulance Company and Huron Valley
Ambulance. MCA is a nonprofit corporation.
Question: How many
ambulances does MCA own?
Answer:
MCA owns six
paramedic ambulances. We operate five on a daily
basis, with one in reserve.
Question: How are
MCA ambulances staffed?
Answer:
Medical control has
adopted the State of Michigan staffing model of one
paramedic and one EMT. MCA utilizes one Senior
Paramedic and the team leader on the ambulance. The
second medic is either a Paramedic, EMT Specialist or basic
EMT.
Question: Where are
MCA's ambulances stationed?
Answer:
We operate from
four ambulance stations in Monroe County.
-
Ash Township Fire
Station (east of Carleton)
-
Seventh Street at
Telegraph (on the Monroe Township/Frenchtown Township
border)
-
Berlin Township (on
Lewis)
-
Dundee Township hall
A fifth ambulance, which
works during peak times during the day, is based at Seventh
Street, but is assigned to a post location in the community.
MCA uses a "system status plan", which moves ambulances
throughout the county to equalize coverage. We also
can call on ambulances of our parent organizations which are
based in adjacent counties for Monroe coverage.
Question:
How much does an ambulance transport cost?
Answer:
MCA is not
subsidized by county or local government. We depend on
transport fees from patients or their health insurance
organizations. Ambulance transports cost between $400
and $650, depending upon the severity of the patient and the
distance to the receiving hospital.
Question: If
I need to be transported, where will you take me?
Answer:
MCA will transport
you to the hospital of your choice, unless you are medically
unstable. If you are unstable or critically ill, you
will be transported to the closest, most appropriate
hospital for your situation. |
